SHIPTALLY / ABOUT

Trade is joined up. The tools should be too.

ShipTally exists for the messy space between a supplier quote, a customs declaration, a freight booking and the price you eventually charge.

Why ShipTally exists

Most trade problems are not caused by one impossible calculation. They happen because the commercial, customs and freight views drift apart. The supplier quote says one thing, the invoice says another, the broker needs information nobody has gathered, and the margin calculation quietly ignores a cost.

ShipTally connects those jobs: live tariff classification and measures, landed cost, profit, customs value, Incoterms® responsibilities, broker instructions, invoice checks, freight allocation and shipment readiness.

Not another generic duty calculator

There are plenty of calculators that multiply a value by a percentage. ShipTally is built around the workflow before and around that calculation. It keeps the rate source, valuation basis, transport mode, documentation and next hand-off visible so the result can be used rather than admired.

The site is UK-focused but mode-neutral: road, sea, air, rail, courier and multimodal movements are all part of the same trade chain.

How guidance is handled

Guidance pages link to primary sources and carry review dates. Rates that can vary by commodity, origin, destination or carrier are not presented as universal facts. Calculators show the arithmetic and assumptions, and unresolved information is surfaced rather than silently treated as zero.

Most calculation tools run in the browser and do not require an account. Live Tariff Intelligence is different: it sends the goods description or commodity code and movement facts to ShipTally’s server so the official HMRC Trade Tariff can be queried. The credentials stay server-side. Copy or print anything you need for your own records.

Where ShipTally is going

The direction is deeper integration, not more filler: make the live tariff result reusable across costing, documents and shipment preparation; strengthen document checks; and reduce re-keying between commercial teams, freight and customs.

ShipTally now connects to HMRC’s managed UK Trade Tariff API for live classification candidates, commodity records and measures. It does not maintain a private duty-rate table or pretend a semantic match is a binding classification.
