UK Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism

UK CBAM applies from 1 January 2027 to specified goods in the aluminium, cement, fertiliser, hydrogen, iron and steel sectors. HMRC’s current guidance uses a £50,000 value threshold in the registration tests and requires relevant importers to keep records.

Customs Intermediaries Standard — PAS 41201:2026

HMRC and BSI launched the first UK Customs Intermediaries Standard in June 2026. It is not legislation, but it sets detailed good-practice expectations around due diligence, appointment and instructions, communication, records, import VAT instructions, staff competence and transparency.

UK Trade Tariff Developer Portal

HMRC’s official tariff developer portal now provides API access to commodity codes, duty rates, VAT, quotas and trade measures. HMRC has said further rate limiting on unauthenticated API traffic is planned for Q4 2026.

Safety and security requirements apply to goods entering and exiting Great Britain and Northern Ireland, with route and responsibility depending on the movement. Do not assume the customs declaration itself settles the ENS/EXS obligation.
